Sending money internationally is safer than ever – if you use a regulated provider and a few simple habits. Here are the five that matter most.

1. Use a licensed provider

In Canada, legitimate money transfer companies are registered with FINTRAC as Money Services Businesses. You can verify any provider's registration on the public FINTRAC registry – DicePay's MSB number is M23200121.

2. Never share your codes

No legitimate provider will ever ask for your password or one-time verification codes – not by phone, email, or WhatsApp. Anyone who does is trying to take over your account.

3. Turn on multi-factor authentication

MFA means a stolen password alone can't open your account. It takes one minute to enable and blocks the vast majority of account-takeover attempts.

4. Only send to people you know

Transfers to strangers – for online deals, "prizes," or urgent requests from unverified contacts – are the most common source of unrecoverable losses. When in doubt, don't send.

5. Track every transfer

Keep your transaction reference and follow the status until it's delivered. If anything looks off, contact support immediately – early reports are far easier to act on.
